Mistabishi - New Album - Drop

Another day, another excellent and original sounding album to review. This time from the former financial industry profiter - Mistabishi. This guy spent his former life in the upper echelons of the financial world, buying low and selling high. Apparently rumoured to be solely responsible for the current financial meltdown, he cut his losses and turned to music production in the hope of single handedly rescuing the economy through his music.
Actually, he has been producing music for a few years and had his first release on Hospital in 2007, but at least he has a spanking new release on Hospital Records to lighten up your life. I bought the album a few weeks ago and if you haven't got it yet and DnB is your bag, then I reckon you should get out there now and get yourself a copy(or just download from any one of the sites I will include at the end of this). Its an inspirational piece of work and like most of the releases on Hospital, it pushes the boundaries of a genre that has become saturated with mediocrity and cliches. A nice selection of unusual DnB and some Dubstep thrown in for good measure.
The first track you can listen to here is Printer Jam. He said its him 'taking the piss out of super-serious office life and the flimsy functionality it's built on'. It is an amazingly original, rhythmic beast. Clearly the work of a genius. Awesome. When we first heard the intro, we thought it was a joke, but it has turned out to be one of our favourites off of the album. Turning even the most mundane of sounds into a dance floor killer. Add some great samples, an excellent drop and some wicked beats and you have a winner in our eyes. Check it out...
White Collar Grime is a nice dubstep offering complete with a nasty rolling bassline which some have said invokes primal instincts and makes them want to smash their head into a tea cabinet. We just love the raw sound and can guarantee if you listen to it live, it will make your insides turn to liquid. Heavy. This is Mistabishis idea of what its about, 'my own little backstab at the buck-passing blame culture of a financial house's front office. bullshiiit management speak, synthetic fart noises and dog-barks, a lyrical description of trader paranoia (Triarch was an unreliable information platform), the thrill of success, the terror of failure, finishing up with a sampled segment from our training video describing the dangers of over-selling/buying credit insurgence products'
Last up for this review (we would talk about every track on the album, but you should just buy it yourselves and make up your own minds) is No Matter what. A smashing little track, that evokes distant memories of sweaty raves in a tent in a field somewhere in somerset. The fast paced 'rave' piano and vocals deceives you into thinking its nothing more than that. That is until halfway through when a heavy reece bassline comes in and tears your face off. Superb from start to finish and definitely one for the old skool. These are our favourites from the album, but its literally brimming with originality, filth and some amazing production. We definitely look forward to hearing more from Mistabishi and the Hospital stable in general. You can buy the album here. As an added bonus check out this tune, a remix of The Temper Traps brilliant Science of Fear (we hadn't heard of them either, well, not until this was played on the Hospital Podcast). We can't get enough if it. Whats more you can download it for free, thats right free from Mistabishis very own site.
