Dub 4 Life @ Area Review

Saturday night saw the first installment of bass driven dubstep night 'Dub 4 Life' at Vauxhall - Area. Dub 4 Life is a sister promotion of Renegade Hardware, the awesome DnB label and hughely popular Drum and Bass event that is also held at Area. We at ravescum love it at Area, awesome lighting, incredible sound system and generally small intimate vibe. The last time we went was in fact Renegade Hardware and it was a great night so we were excited by the prospect of tonights event.

When we arrived there wasn't much of a queue. There were a few people waiting around to pay on the door though. Went through the always thorough searches and we were in. Time to take advantage of the 3 beers for £10 and have a look around.
The main room was playing host to melodic dubstep, the second room old skool drum and bass and the third room reggae and roots.

We ventured into the main room and were greeted with the sounds of headline DJ for the night DJ Hatcha stepping up into the DJ booth. Hosting a regular dubstep show on Kiss, we were looking forward to hearing what he had in his bag of tricks. Even though it was around 12am there weren't many people about and with the majority(mainly male) all up by the Dj booth, the back of the club was empty. Hatcha didn't disappoint the people who had ventured out for the night though, abusing the crisp soundsystem in Area and pushing it to it's limits. The atmosphere felt a bit flat, but we were hoping it would fill up with more people as it was still quite early. Hatcha tore through his set, and was joined by N-type who also keep the faithful moving.
Moving into the second room to check out the old skool drum and bass, we were disappointed to see only 20 or so people moving and grooving to the sounds of the DJ Kane spinning some absolute classic old skool tunes. Still loving DJ Kane from back in the day it was a shame to see only a few people enjoying what was a wicked old skool set.
Unfortunately by 4am we called time and made our way out. All in all it was an average night. The music in the main room was awesome, the old skool DnB was nice but the turn out was poor, especially for a night boasting such a great line up. We love Area, we are fans of these promoters, but this night fell somewhat short because of the amount of people who turned out. Hopefully the next one will have a better attendance!!
